Freelancing Etymology
Freelancing in the USA can be traced back in history to the 18th century.
At this time the the term freelance was used to describe medieval warriors or free-lance, lance being one of the preferred weapons of combat in medieval times.
The term was formally introduced into the English dictionary in 1903.
In recent times it has referred to professional occupations and the concept that a freelancer is a professional who doesn’t stayed tied down to one job.
